A total of 100 students from diverse academic backgrounds have been shortlisted out of 1,417 applicants representing 29 States and Union Territories. The internship programme will continue till May 29, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme was inaugurated by Justice V. Ramasubramanian in the presence of NHRC Secretary General Bharat Lal, Joint Secretary Saidingpuii Chhakchhuak, Director Irsad Alam and other senior officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the interns, Justice V. Ramasubramanian highlighted the increasing significance of human rights awareness in today\u2019s world. Referring to the growing number of armed conflicts globally, he said that the world is currently witnessing nearly 130 armed conflicts, the highest since World War II. Citing the Global Peace Index 2025, he noted that 98 countries are facing external conflicts, causing massive economic and humanitarian challenges worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also spoke about the impact of technology and social media on modern society, observing that while technology has expanded communication and participation, it has also contributed to unrest and instability in several regions. Encouraging students to remain open to dialogue and diverse perspectives, he emphasised the importance of empathy and compassion, describing \u2018Daya\u2019 as the greatest dharma in Indian philosophy. He said that the internship programme aims to help students become more empathetic, fair and sensitive towards social and human rights issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NHRC Secretary General Bharat Lal stated that the online internship model, launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, has enabled students from across India to participate without financial or logistical barriers. He informed that the number of internship programmes conducted annually has increased significantly, allowing nearly 600 students to benefit from the initiative every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He urged the interns to uphold constitutional values such as equality, justice and fraternity while developing sensitivity, compassion and thoughtful decision-making abilities.
