ANCHI, JHARKHAND – October 20, 2025 – Hon. Dr. S. D. Singh, Forest Range Officer of the Deoghar Forest Division, Jharkhand, has been conferred with the prestigious Ashoka National Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his exceptional and lifelong contributions to conservation, particularly in the areas of Forestry, Environmental, and Wildlife Excellence.

The award, a high national honor, celebrates Dr. Singh’s distinguished service spanning over three decades, during which he has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment, exemplary leadership, and innovative approaches to protecting India’s rich natural heritage.

A Legacy of Courage and Commitment

Dr. Singh began his illustrious journey on February 3, 1989, with the Forest & Environment Department, Government of Jharkhand. Over the years, he has held pivotal positions, including Forest Range Officer at the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, and Assistant Enforcement Officer at the Enforcement Directorate, New Delhi.

Known for his hands-on approach to conservation, Dr. Singh has been at the forefront of high-risk field interventions, including the rescue of endangered wildlife and the daring capture of a wild leopard, demonstrating both courage and deep respect for nature. His work has been instrumental in maintaining the ecological balance of Jharkhand and neighboring states, ensuring the survival of several threatened species.

Academic Excellence and Professional Expertise

Dr. Singh’s multifaceted approach to conservation is underpinned by a strong academic foundation. He holds an MBA, a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management and Welfare Administration, LLB, B.Sc. in Botany, and a Diploma in Animal Welfare from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai.

This rare combination of practical field experience and academic expertise has enabled him to design and implement innovative conservation strategies, ranging from forest fire mitigation to wildlife rehabilitation programs.

Championing Environmental Education

A pioneer in environmental education, Dr. Singh serves as the Honorary Secretary of the Society for Conservation of Flora and Fauna, where he has been instrumental in promoting awareness campaigns, training programs, and research initiatives for students, forest officers, and local communities. His expertise in climate change, forest management, and wildlife protection has made him a sought-after participant in national and international training programs.
