Gaborone, November 12, 2025:
At the invitation of Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President Droupadi Murmu participated in the grand celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence on November 11, 2025, in Luanda.

The event, held at the Praça da República, featured a spectacular display of Angola’s military parades and rich cultural performances, showcasing the nation’s journey since independence. President Murmu joined President Lourenço and other dignitaries in commemorating this significant milestone in Angola’s history.

Following her engagement in Angola, President Murmu arrived in Gaborone, Botswana, marking the final leg of her two-nation African visit. Her arrival at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport was marked by a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour, personally extended by H.E. Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, President of Botswana.

This visit holds special significance as it represents the first-ever State Visit by an Indian Head of State to Botswana, underlining the growing warmth and cooperation between the two countries.

President Murmu’s visits to Angola and Botswana reaffirm India’s commitment to deepening diplomatic, economic, and cultural partnerships across Africa, aligned with India’s long-standing engagement with the continent.
