The Government of India continues its efforts to safeguard the nation’s cinematic heritage through the National Film Heritage Mission (NFHM), aimed at the preservation, restoration, and digitization of old films.

To date, 1,469 film titles, amounting to 4.3 lakh minutes of film content—including feature films, short films, and documentaries—have been successfully digitized. These restored and digitized works are preserved by the National Film Archives of India (NFAI) and are available for public access through its official website.

The Government of India extends support to filmmakers across all Indian languages, including Bengali. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting provides financial assistance and institutional support for film production and promotion under the Development, Communication and Dissemination of Filmic Content (DCDFC) scheme. This initiative plays a crucial role in helping regional films gain visibility at both national and international levels.

This information was shared by Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, in the Lok Sabha today in response to a question raised by Shri Narayan Tatu Rane and Shri Saumitra Khan.
