The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, attended a public function in Senapati, Manipur today (December 12, 2025), where she laid foundation stones and inaugurated several developmental projects aimed at strengthening the region’s infrastructure and social welfare systems.
Addressing the gathering, the President noted that ensuring dignity, security, and growth opportunities for the tribal communities of Manipur, along with their greater participation in India’s development, is a national priority. She said that the Government of India is working in close coordination with local leaders, civil society, and communities to achieve inclusive and sustainable development in the state.
The President highlighted the government’s commitment to extending development to every corner of the country, with special focus on remote tribal regions. In recent years, Manipur’s hill districts have witnessed significant investments in infrastructure, including roads, bridges, national highways, rural connectivity, healthcare, education, drinking water facilities, and electricity supply. She added that livelihood initiatives such as skill development programmes, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and Van Dhan schemes have contributed to improving the quality of life for local communities.
Underscoring the cultural richness of Manipur, the President said the state’s strength lies in its diversity of culture, language, and traditions. She stated that the hills and the valley complement each other, forming two inseparable parts of a beautiful land. She urged all communities to continue supporting efforts aimed at peace, understanding, and reconciliation.
Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment, the President said the Government of India deeply recognises the aspirations of the people of Manipur and is dedicated to ensuring their welfare and progress. She called upon all stakeholders to work together for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur.
Earlier in the day, the President visited the Nupee Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal to pay homage to the brave women warriors of Manipur. The memorial honours the sacrifices of Manipuri women who valiantly challenged British imperial and feudal powers during historic uprisings.
